Community Outreach

The Potters' Guild of Frederick is actively involved in the ceramic artist community, supporting area studios, schools, demonstrations, galleries, and fundraisers. Our mission is to promote high standards in both expressive and functional ceramic art, to exchange ideas, to stimulate community interest in the ceramic arts and to hold periodic ceramic exhibitions and sales.

Our community outreach includes education, demonstrations, children's clay opportunities, fundraising for donations to local charities, and a gallery shop where we sell our pottery and provide information about our processes making the pottery, and information about local events and classes. We have received grants to support our outreach efforts.

Fundraisers:

  • Annual "Brain Freeze" event by the Guild. Handmade bowls are donated by Guild members and other potters in the community. For a donation, the public gets a bowl and ice cream donated by South Mountain Creamery. Profits have been donated to the Frederick Rescue Mission, and to the Frederick Food Bank.

  • "Potters Give Back," an ongoing event at the gallery. Members donate their hand-made pottery to promote our mission of Community Outreach. It's displayed in a special area of the gallery, and 100% of the proceeds go to a revolving list of essential Frederick charities.

Donation Events:

  • Frederick County Nature Council Park After Dark Silent Auction

  • St Joseph on Carrolton Manor Silent Auction

  • Frederick Dog Days of Summer; donated bowls, handed out dog biscuits, vets volunteered their time answering questions.

  • American Association of University Women Auction

  • Urbana High School International Baccalaureate Silent Auction

  • Souper Bowls empty bowls event at the Frederick Clay Studio

  • Trim a Tree gift give-away, sponsored by Downtown Frederick Partnership

Potters Give Back

Another program, Potters Give Back, donates some sales to local charities. Begun in 2019, this program displays pottery in a special area of the gallery, and 100% of the proceeds go to a revolving list of local Frederick charities. Members donate their hand-made pottery for this cause.
