My goals with clay never include perfect uniformity; pottery gives us permission to be imperfect and un-uniform, and to welcome surprises. It is a science, and each pot starts with a hypothesis based in knowledge of the science, but the results are ultimately unpredictable. The only certainty in the studio is delightful freedom and creativity, joyful labor, and a big mess!
