Avonell Watson grew up in the Deep South. After earning a B.S. in Education she taught in primary and secondary grades, and worked in higher education administration. Her interest in gardening led her to become a part of the Master Gardener program first in Marion County, Indiana and then in Frederick County, Maryland. After painting in oils for over 20 years, she discovered clay at Indianapolis Art Center in Indianapolis, Indiana and has continued her clay experience at Frederick Potter School in Frederick, Maryland.
